New Year's Eve And The Elusive Gold Men's Dress Shirt? |
It is just about that time of year again. This year is coming to an end, and in the middle of planning Thanksgiving and some type of family gathering in December, you almost forgot about New Years. To make up for that mistake, you decide to go out and treat yourself to an end of the year spectacular. You want to pull out all of the stops. You had a good year, your company did well, and maybe you started a family or found that special someone. Maybe you just want to end the year in style. That last one, that's my favorite. What better way to end the year and welcome a whole new one than by looking your absolute best. The tuxedo has been done way too many times before; no, something different this year. It takes a while, and you find yourself browsing the racks of suits, ties, jackets, shoes, everything you can think of, but to no avail. Nothing seems to stick out without being ostentatious or just not your style. The recommendations of stylists don't help much either. They seem to suggest a lot of the same, the tuxedo with bow tie, maybe a black vest over a white dress shirt. You'll look like you belong at a wedding. Not that that is a bad thing, but unless it's your big day, who cares? You want to stand out, not be some weird guy holding the flowers in the corner as the ball drops. Wait, maybe you're on to something there. The ball that drops in Times Square. It seems like it's the most watched television program all year, and all eyes look up, right at the ball. You decide you need something that matches the appeal of the ball drop, attire that commands attention. What are the colors of New Year's Eve? Black, white, gray, there is a lot of red, white, and blue as well. But there is also gold. A gold jacket is quite flashy, and gold pants are just too much, but the right gold mens dress shirt, that would be perfect. The hunt begins. There are some gold shirts that are too bright, others too dull. You want just the right gold that reminds you of new year and all of the promise that lies with the clock striking twelve. It can be paired with a nice black jacket, or even a white one, depending on the gold you find. You might not even need to wear a tie or bowtie with it, the complete ensemble speaks for itself really. It takes a while, plenty of trying on and shaken heads. But finally, somewhere near the middle of December, you find that gold shirt. It is the color of a bar of gold, not the sparkly nature of whatever you've seen on tv, but real gold. The color is slightly muted, but the effect is larger than life. In an instant you recognize that this shirt will stand out, will demand attention from party guests, but not one of them will think you're being too flashy. Next you're off to find some pants and a jacket that match the shirt, maybe a vest as well. Are you thinking black, or white? White might be a little flashy; but the gold is sort of muted in such a way that the white would compliment it, bring it great contrast. The black though, the classic black style that has been worn for centuries could work. It always looks good, is slimming, and contrasts the gold shirt and speaks volumes about sophistication. Both are worth a try though, you never can be sure until you try them both. I think for the party you're going to, the black would be best. Maybe a black vest underneath? The gold draws attention to you, peeking out from beneath the jacket and vest. It calls to people, their inquisitive looks relax when you open your mouth and begin conversation. It's also a conversation starter. I'm sure some of them will have never seen a proper gold men's dress shirt on NYE. Congratulations on being the first. As the clock ticks closer to twelve and the elusive midnight hour draws nearer. You cannot help but reflect on the choice of gold for NYE. It wasn't just a bold choice, maybe it represented a bold choice you made this year, or you making changes that led to your well-deserved happiness. The shirt was much more than a simple conversation piece. It was an expression of you. That shirt said more about you than you probably realize, but maybe no one else noticed? In truth, it could very well have been just another shirt. But when you leave after midnight, your thoughts full of New Year's resolutions and how you want to make next year even better than this year, why not give some credit to the shirt. It helped you end this year much bolder than you started it, full of confidence and optimism about the future. Gold is an ideal; it correlates to a lot of things for a lot of people. You wore it proudly across your chest on one of the most important nights of the year. Take that thought with you into the new year and don't let go. Hang the shirt where you can browse through it once and a while. Giving yourself another reason to work hard and trust your gut. You deserve it. You took a bold step, and you'll be reaping the benefits all year long. The elusive gold men's dress shirt was well worth the time. Who knows what it will be next year. |
