Dinner Jackets are the semi formal evening dress usually worn in the evening after 6p.m and the common colours are black or midnight blue having satin or grosgrain facing on the lapels. The jacket comes with white formal shirt, black trousers, bow tie, a cummerbund, polished dinner jacket and other accessories. The different parts of dinner jackets comprise of are as follows:
Jacket : It is single breasted made tradionally of wool or wool polyester bend and other materials like silk. It may be single breasted or double breasted with lapels peaked lapel or shawl collar. The dinner jackets can have satin facing or grosgrain and pockets without flaps
Cummerbund :
A black one worn around the waist with horizontally pleated. This is also made of silk to match the jacket facings.
Trousers :
Generally dark colours with single silk satin braid to match the lapels as required.Shirt- A formal white shirt with French cuffs or Cream shirts can also be used.Fronts can either be

A black silk bow tie made of matching the lapel facings.
Black dinner jacket : A patent leather dinner jacket which is polished such that it shines like a mirror. The accessories include cuffs, cufflink and optional linen or silk handkerchiefs on pockets.There are also white dinner jackets which are worn in warm climates. They are ivory in colour rather than pure white and have the self faced lapels with black trousers and same black cummerbund. Shawl lapels are more suited in white dinner jackets. The rest are same as normal dinner jackets. White dinner jackets are generally worn in wedding, beach events etc.
Though in some occasions white dinner jackets are worn but traditional dinner suits are more ethnic and classic dress in parties. These jackets have different names in different parts of the world. Like in Britain these jackets are known as Dinner jackets or dinner suits while in North America these are White dinner jackets. In Canada these jackets are known as Tuxedos. Though there is not much difference between dinner jackets and tuxedos but according to climate and places different names of jackets are there.
